Book: Happiness is a Warm Carcass

Though cameras have never been my forte, I know a good photo when I see it. Stories, on the other hand, well that’s my bread and butter—especially ones that combines humor, relatable circumstance, and familiar locales. Those resonate with me. I’ve found all this and more in David Peterson’s Happiness is a Warm Carcass: Stories and Pictures from Yellowstone and Beyond (Pipe Dream Productions, $22). As the sum of Peterson’s life and work domestically and abroad, Happiness is a Warm Carcass gives its readers a breathtaking look at the landscapes of Yellowstone National Park, Teton National Park, and Thailand (where Peterson met his wife). However, Peterson’s work is so much more than just a catalogue of photos; it’s also a collection of stories chronicling his side-splitting misadventures over the years. No matter your familiarity with Thailand, the Tetons, or Yellowstone, it’s a fine read and one that’s sure to resonate with anyone who picks up a copy.
