When the Eureka Taron 2 arrived at my doorstep, I thought there’d been a mistake. This two-person backpacking tent is impossibly small and light as a feather. It packs down to 18 inches, yet opens to provide 30 square feet of room, which is exactly enough to comfortably host two six-foot Nordics and their backpacks. Like all Eureka products, ease of assembly is a priority. The Taron is good as gold in a matter of minutes (if not seconds), and its design allows for prime stargazing on clear, dry nights. If conditions aren’t as favorable, a simple yet effective fly clips on with ease. I carried this puppy around South America for a month and barely knew it was there, until it was time to set up camp, anyway. Wait—did I just call it a puppy? That would have been much heavier and more annoying while backpacking. Available at REI. $170; eurekatent.com
