Reuss, Dave

Brought to you by the same folks who make the Swiss Army knife, the Rothorn 2 is a beefy four-season tent that’s ready for anything. One of the most important aspects of a tent is how easily it goes up—and even after losing the instructions, I managed to erect the Rothorn in less than ten minutes on my first try. The inside is roomy and features mesh paneling on every wall (as well as the ceiling) to store everything you’d need in a hurry. The blue zipper-pull tabs on the bug netting stand out nicely against the yellow tabs for the door, so you’ll never have to fumble trying to get out of the tent by headlamp. When it comes time to batten down the hatches, the rainfly buckles onto the tent and guy-lines snug everything down tight, making this thing ready for nearly anything Mother Nature can throw at it. $450; wengerna.com.
