Since the Microdistillery Act of 2005—a state law removing Prohibition-era restrictions on distilling—Montana has become a hub for producing quality, handcrafted spirits. That fine piece of legislation (in our humble opinion) made whiskey fans rejoice, and now they have another reason to toast: Ennis is the proud home of Willie’s Distillery, owned by Willie and Robin Blazer.

The husband-wife team has pledged to use local ingredients whenever possible. “I grew up on a 2,000-acre wheat farm in Radersburg, Montana,” says Robin, “so it’s extremely important for me to support the local Montana agricultural community.”

In the tasting room, visitors can try any and all spirits that Willie’s has to offer, but their flagship hooch is Montana Moonshine—a ready-to-drink, unaged whiskey—and a lighter, sweeter version called Montana Honey Moonshine, made with local Montana honey. They also plan to distill vodka and gin, as well as a large batch of aged bourbon that won’t be available for at least a few years. For more info, visit williesdistillery.com, check them out on Facebook, or stop by the distillery at 312 E. Main.

Update: Willie's Bighorn Bourbon and Montana Chokecherry Liquer have been added to the current lineup and are available at liquor stores around Montana.
