New this season is the Kode 38 pack by Osprey, specifically built for those who prefer to play in the backcountry. Designed for winter tours and backcountry trips, I was impressed at how Osprey has put together a winter pack with so many different features. The top-loading main compartment has an area for wet and dry gear, as well as an expandable top pocket designed to fit your helmet while ascending. It's hydration compatible with an insulated hose sleeve to keep your liquids unfrozen, has three different carry options for skis and snowboards, as well as gear loops and sleeves for ice axes and avy gear. The Kode is not the supportive, customizable pack that I would bring on a longer adventure, but it is perfect for the average jaunt into the backcountry. Available at Northern Lights, Barrel Mountaineering, Pro Lite Gear, and Schnee’s.
