You know you’re getting old when you want socks for Christmas. But there may be no greater pleasure at this point in life than sliding into a fresh new pair, especially when that’s a pair of Big Cottonwoods from Farm to Feet.

These are backcountry-specific socks made from 100% American merino wool, which means I probably won’t wash them all season, as merino neutralizes odor naturally. They’re thin without compromising cushioning; they’re tough without being bulky; and they stay in place without being hard to get on.

The only drawback? Farm to Feet named them Big Cottonwood instead of Big Couloir.
