Second Annual Winterfest to Benefit Big Sky Trails

A result of a handful of Big Sky locals’ desire for a fun, family- and community-oriented winter event, the second annual Big Sky Winterfest is scheduled for March 20. The day will include five different race events, each with its own twist, and all geared towards getting locals, visitors, families, and individuals out and about and enjoying the spring snow.

The Winterfest committee has arranged for the same special 1k loop to be groomed into the area near the Big Sky Community Park for the day’s activities. Scheduled events include: a four-person team relay, where each racer must use the same pair of skis to complete the loop; an adult-pulling-a-child sled race; a dog-pulling-an-adult race, a three-legged ski race; a push-pull-or-drag-anything-that-glides race; and several children’s activities.

Early registration is encouraged; registration forms can be picked up at the Big Sky Chamber of Commerce or the ERA Real Estate office. Prizes will be given for first- and second-place winners in each event, and there will also be a raffle with valued prizes from local area businesses. In addition to the racing events, a designated children’s area will provide a space for the younger spectators to enjoy making snow sculptures, snow painting, and races for the tots. Local food vendors have been petitioned to come out and feed the masses, selling snacks, sandwiches, soups, and hot beverages for racers and spectators alike. The day has been arranged to hold a little bit of something for everyone.

Winterfest proceeds will again go to the Big Sky Trails for upkeep and continued expansion of the community trails system. For more information, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 995-3000. Don’t miss the opportunity to be involved in Big Sky’s community winter event, Winterfest… the best fest in the West.
