Hot 3 Firefighting Pack

One day I'm building a deck in a snowstorm in Montana, the next I'm fighting fire on a stinking-hot day in Quincy, California. So it is, in wildland firefighting. Made here in Bozeman, the Mystery Ranch Hot 3 Firefighting Pack provided copious storage (1,500 cu. in.) and protected all my gear. Most important, it survived a season of wildland abuse without flaw. The yoke-style shoulder straps don't restrict movement while pounding the trail or scrambling, and they helped keep my back cool. The fabric and fire-shelter attachments are bomber, and I could stash my Handbook and Crew Time Reports in the lid pocket. Later that season, I worked as an EMT and was able to fit a small O2 bottle from my med kit in the main compartment while carrying extra water in the holster pockets. They say it can carry 50 pounds comfortably and I believe it. I just hope I never have to. $265; mysteryanch.com.
