Can you say, "Viva Las Vegas?" You'd better start thinking about it, because that's the theme for this year's Pinhead Classic, where dozens of telemark "pinheads" head for Bridger Bowl dressed in wacky costumes to race each other on a specially designed course. The Montana Telemark Corporation (MTC) is organizing the festival this year, which will be held on March 23rd.

While wearing gold-rimmed glasses under slicked, black hairdos with flashy capes flying in the wind, telemark skiers will let the dice roll as they make their way through the dual slalom obstacle course filled with pro jumps, berms, and other such features. "Through the years the race has become less competitive and more of a festival," says Warren Bauder, one of the presidents of MTC.

Enhancing the merriment are awards for best wreck, best air, and best costume, to name just a few. Several prizes will be given away through random drawings as well.

The entry fee is $20 and registration is available all day at the Jim Bridger base lodge. While the entry fee does not cover your lift ticket, it does include access to the course, awards, a free t-shirt, free beverages, and entry into the post-party celebration held downtown at the Eagles Club (east end of the strip), where there will be food, music, and more beverages.

Proceeds from this year's event will be donated to the Friends of the Avalanche Center.
