Drive Bindings

The revolutionary idea behind NOW’s system for their Drive snowboard bindings was to mimic the action of skateboard trucks in edge-to-edge control by using a kingpin, hanger, and bushing system that transfers energy directly to the edge of your board. The first few turns were a little squirrely, but once acquainted, the small level of play in the bindings turned the board effortlessly and precisely. Instead of flexing knees, hips, and ankles to carve a turn, it seemed like I could just think about raising or lowering my ankles to initiate movement. Although I didn’t get a chance to experiment, a rider can also remove the highbacks for a more surf-inspired feel. All together, the bindings were snug and super comfy, and I noticed improved responsiveness in powder, as well as a reduction of chatter on the rough stuff. Available at Gallatin Alpine Sports. $300; nowsnowboarding.com.
