Reactor Lightvest

From the late fall to early spring, running gets harder—your choices are running in the dark, finding a job that allows you to run during the day, or hitting the dreadmill. If the latter two options are out, pick up a GoMotion Reactor Lightvest. The powerful 100-lumen LED forward-facing light on the chest strap can be adjusted from a wide to narrow beam, as well as up or down. It also has three level of illumination, so as conditions change, you can increase or decrease the brightness. Just as importantly, the Reactor’s rear-facing, red LED light and reflective trim makes you visible to motorists. The chest light takes some adjusting to keep the strap from shifting, and for a casual runner this system may be a bit excessive; but I definitely feel safer and more comfortable with the Reactor than with just a simple headlamp. $75; gomotiongear.com.
