Review: Scarpa Kailash Trek GTX

It didn’t take long for Scarpa to earn the same solid reputation for hiking boots as they’ve enjoyed with climbing shoes and ski boots for decades—and the Kailash Trek GTX could be why. I’ve tested more footwear than Imelda Marcos, and I’m here to tell you, this boot is among the best. Lightweight yet strong and supportive, the Kailash Trek GTX has replaced my bigger backpacking boots for longer treks in the Beartooths, while still being my go-to boot for a short day-trip up Baldy or Blackmore. The lacing system pulls the entire boot snug, increasing comfort and eliminating slippage inside; the grippy soles grab the ground like cougar paws. Nimble and strong at the same time, the Kailash is pretty much the CrossFit of hiking boots—and that makes me one happy hiker. Available at Northern Lights, Grizzly Outfitters, and Timber Trails. $209; scarpa.com
