Review: Platypus GravityWorks 2L

I find it difficult to carry enough water to keep up with the demands of my favorite outdoor activities, and I’m also a stickler about saving precious weight when loading my pack. So it’s no surprise that the Gavityworks 2.0L pump-free microfiltration system from Platypus has become one of my most valued pieces of gear. As its name suggests, this ultralight (11.5 oz.) and compact kit uses gravity to drain water collected in the “dirty” reservoir through a hollow fiber filter and into a “clean” container at the quick rate of 1.5 liters per minute. What I really love about the complete kit is that it allows the option to filter water into the Platy 2L Bottle (included), directly into various water bottles I already own via the universal adapter, or even directly into the hydration system in my backpack. $110; cascadedesigns.com.
