Moonlight and Big Sky Slopeside Summaries

America’s Biggest Skiing gets even bigger this winter. Moonlight Basin offers nine new gladed runs off the Iron Horse lift, as well as a Freestyle Forest with natural features coming together to make a park experience in the thick of the woods. Next door, Big Sky has five new gladed runs slated to open on Andesite Mountain.

Both resorts also have big expansions developing off the mountain. Big Sky has remodeled and expanded its Solace Spa, and Moonlight will come under the ownership of Lehman Brothers—and that brings some bold changes, including expanding Headwaters Grille and adding Timbers Restaurant in the Moonlight Lodge. Moonlight is also offering a new Value Card, including one day of free skiing, a discount on each full-day ticket, and special prices the second Sunday of each month.

Both resorts were instrumental in funding the federal grant for Gallatin Field Airport’s new direct flight from New York City to Bozeman, hoping to increase traffic by easing travel expenses and reducing travel time. All of these new developments amount to what Moonlight GM Greg Pack says: “When people try us, they end up loving us—we have uncrowded, incredible terrain. People who don’t know much about it get to realize just how big it is.”
