Stay grey.

The best time to be a skier is not amid blue skies and a fresh layer of snow, when the best turns are behind us and all that accumulates are tracks.

The best time is deep within the grey and consuming abyss—where each run is better than the last and tracks vanish before our eyes.

Winds pick up and visibility fades. Thick snowflakes dampen clothing and crowds disappear as tired legs beg to stop.

It’s not weather that matters, but the pursuit: more snow, more turns, more time.

The best time to be a skier is when the end is nowhere in sight and the best is yet to come.
