Park Programs

Bozeman Parks & Rec

Bozeman’s back yard is a natural playground, allowing us to disconnect from the daily grind and embark on an adventure in the great outdoors right in town. The city’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains 63 miles of trails, six climbing boulders, three outdoor ice rinks, and two aquatic facilities; it also offers myriad outdoor recreation programs for people of all ages. Here’s a sampling.

Ice Skating. The Parks and Recreation Department offers skating lessons, hockey, and free recreational skating on three ice rinks around town, at Bogert, Beall, and Southside parks.

Archery. Taught by Big Sky Archery’s certified professionals, classes cover safety and technique and allow plenty of time to practice. Multiple sessions are available for all ability levels.

Avalanche Awareness & Beacon Park. Every year, the Bozeman Parks and Recreation Department and the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center put up a beacon park in Beall Park as soon as snow allows. The area is equipped with three buried transceivers and provides a great opportunity to hone youravalanche-rescue skills. Classes that cover terrain, weather, snowpack, and human factors are also available.

Curling. Widely believed to be among the world’s oldest team sports, curling is an extremely popular winter program. No experience required.
