I walk a lot—around town and in the mountains—and I have struggled for years to find durable and practical shoes that fit my wide foot and also fit a modest budget. Thanks to the Rockport Trail Technique, I have to look no further. Providing an excellent balance between comfort, style, and performance, the Rockport Trail Technique is a waterproof hiking shoe that readily transitions from city streets to mountain trails. This versatile shoe is well-crafted with Hydro-Shield waterproof leather, a seam-sealed/waterproof insole, a gusseted tongue, and DEWIX linings to help keep feet dry. Perhaps the best feature is a shock-absorbing EVA midsole designed to conform to one’s foot, along with a durable rubber sole and burly tread for stability and traction. In other words: they’re super comfy, highly practical, and add a little class to one’s shoe closet. They are low-cut, which I am keen on, but some may prefer a higher cut for hiking. $100; rockport.com
