Gallatin Gallop Race
Sounds like the inaugural Gallatin Gallop Snowshoe Race went well last year because they're holding another one on January 28 at Bohart Ranch. It may look goofy, but running in snowshoes is an ass-kicker. Don't be intimidated, however. The race organizers tell us that about 90% of the participants have never raced in snowshoes before. So come and be awed by the 5K and 10K racers, or be a bad-ass yourself. The race is a qualifier for the U.S. Snowshoe Association National Championships in March. King & Queen of the Ridge
February 17, 2007, is the next King and Queen of the Ridge Community Race Series. The event is a hike-a-thon to raise money for the Hans Saari Memorial fund and the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center, which promote avalanche education in southwest Montana. Hans Saari was a former Bozeman resident and one of the country's most accomplished mountaineers and backcountry skiers. He died tragically in Chamonix, France during an expedition in 2001. Come out and hike for a good cause. For more info, call 587-2111.
