Big Sky Resort’s terrain expands once again with the opening of Dakota Territories, 212 acres on the west side of Liberty Bowl. Accessible only from Lone Peak Tram, Dakota Territories provides open-bowl skiing, largely above treeline. The new acreage is considered ideal for intermediate skiers or anyone who feels like taking broad, sweeping turns.

A wide bowl, Dakota Territories funnels into pristine glades bordering the Bavarian Forest. It eventually exits onto Hippy Highway, allowing skiers and riders to quickly return to the front side of Lone Mountain.

With the addition of this new turf, Big Sky now claims 3,812 skiiable acres. When combined with the adjoining Moonlight Basin, the area grows to a whopping 5,512 acres, making it the country's largest lift-served terrain. Taylor Middleton, Big Sky general manager, boasts, “We’re pleased to announce the biggest just got bigger.”

New too, is the addition of a magic carpet lift, similar to an airport’s moving walkway, located just above Snowcrest Lodge. During the day the new surface lift will enhance and expand Big Sky’s beginner area. In the evening, it will service the new tube park. Aprés-ski tubing will be available for $10/hour for children 10 and under and $15/hour for those 11 and up.
