If you’re in the market for a new snowboard that performs well in powder, crust, ice, and crud, check out the Steepwater Plow 164. This board is designed for those looking to ride outside of the park and among the peaks that surround it and who therefore need a board that can handle a variety of terrain. Designed and ridden by experienced extreme riders—like Steepwater co-owner Steve Klassen, who’s claimed six Red Bull World Extreme titles—this board is truly made for the extreme. Sporting a tapered tale (.6 cm narrower than the nose), the Plow rides outstandingly well in the preferred medium of powder; you can weight your front foot with less possibility of the dreaded submarine. The Plow is also thicker in the rear, which allows the nose to plane and thus maintain speed in the crud and powder. These features also make it a great board for big drops into deep or heavy snow. The Plow is lightly cambered and has less sidecut than a conventional snowboard, keeping it from over-correcting or springing you out of your turn. It doesn’t overload the tips and keeps a straighter line, which is nice on more exposed terrain when falling is not an option. Designed for the freerider, the innovative Plow is also a great board if you’re just looking for something different.

In a past life, Brandon Milford was a sponsored rider in the competition circuit. Over the last seven years, he's averaged 100 days a winter in the mountains around Bozeman.
