If you like the feel of Burton boards but have size 11-13 feet, try the Burton Baron. With this model, Burton has finally come up with, as they say on the spec sheet, “a freestyle board for larger-footed riders.” True, but this board is so much more than that—it rides like a dream, and feels like an extension of your body that goes where you will it, without complaint. I like a fast board with good edgehold and this board delivers both. I also like a board that is a bit playful and not so demanding to ride, which usually leaves me wanting in the edgehold and stability department. Not with the Baron. It pounds and slices through crud, yet is nimble and easy-going in the park and pipe. Not edge-catchy at all, the Baron is a ton of fun to ride, especially while you are blowing past your friends on its WFO base. Super fast!

Another mid-wide board I love is the Rome Flag. This board is fun! When you pressure it, it gives back; quick, snappy and powerful. This board is great for hips, pipes, powder, or just cruising. The 2006 shape is more like a twin than last year’s model, making it a bit more versatile for park and pipe. It’s still solid for freeriding and maching down big lines due to the ingenious geometry and design. Rome has devised an amazing binding retention system that is inside the E.4 matrix core that allows the board’s core profile to be extremely thin underfoot, where you wouldn't normally dare to thin out a board. This gives the board a high strength-to-weight ratio and a playful torsional forgiveness not found in boards this stable. Usually a "solid" feeling board is not so agile and able, but these guys have done it. The durable and hard sintered S.3 base is real fast and resists ice, rocks, rails, jumps… whatever you throw at it. For a good all-around board, the Flag is one that fills all the gaps and will stay fun to ride no matter where you take it.
