McCarthy, Chirs

My feet are in a constant battle—too hot, too cold, too sweaty—but the Lorpen T3 Light Hiker might be the Treaty of Versailles for my barking dogs. These socks actually have three separate layers of fiber, each providing a different function. One layer, called Tencel, is the soft, comfortable layer against the skin. The second layer is made of CoolMax; it moves moisture away from the feet, keeping them dry and cool. Finally, there’s a layer of nylon and lycra, for durability and to prevent slippage in the boot. Even with three layers, these socks are fairly thin and were great for spring running, keeping my feet dry through mud season. And as I head into the long hikes of summer I’m confident I’ll have one less problem to worry about. $18; lorpennorthamerica.com.
