Like most fair-weather runners, I have a love/hate relationship with running. It’s too cold… it’s too hot… I hate running on roads… I’m bored. While the right shoes can’t fix the weather, a good pair of trail shoes can nix the last two problems. With solid trail trampers on your feet, you’ll never be bored cruising along Bozeman’s amazing array of trails, and the necessity to run on pavement will be drastically reduced. I started wearing the Reebok One Seeker GTX during the sloppy shoulder season, where every trail mile promised some combination of mud, snow, water, and dirt. The hefty outsole kept my feet under me, and the Gore-Tex upper repelled freezing water and slush. The shoe is designed and engineered as a trail walking/hiking shoe, but the cushioned, supportive bottom and immediate comfort of the upper had me running more miles than I set out to do… which is a rare thing for a fair-weather runner. $110; reebok.com.
