McCarthy, Chris

Have you ever put on a boot, and knew before you even took a step that it was the boot for you? That’s how I felt when I put on the lightweight Danner High Ground hunting boot. In the field, I was able to tear up and down the mountainside. Featuring a lock-and-load lacing system, the 8” boot provides great ankle support on the most uneven terrain. Over rocks, downed timber, and stream crossings, my footing was stable thanks to the boot’s Talon outsole. The outer layer of leather, the 9000-Denier nylon, and the Gore-Tex liner provided a shield against water, while still keeping the boot breathable. The 400 grams of Thinsulate insulation is a little much for early fall—but I’ll be happey come the snow and cold of late-season big-game hunting. Available at Schnee’s, Bob Wards, and Shedhorn Sports. $160; danner.com.
