What first appealed to me about The North Face Maddie Raschel was its comfort—it’s lined with what the company calls “super soft, super lux Silken fleece,” and it certainly lives up to that colorful (albeit uninspired) description. I was expecting a cozy jacket that I could use as a mid-layer under my shell, something that would transfer comfortably from the outdoors to the office. What I got was even better: a lightweight, nearly wind-proof and water-resistant jacket that’s not bulky but still keeps me comfortable in temperatures ranging from 50 to 15 degrees. I like to keep a wool layer underneath when I’m planning on getting sweaty; when it’s below freezing, I just slip any shell over the top and it’s good to go. Perfect for people like me who wear layers like it’s going out of style. Available at Northern Lights. $150; thenorthface.com
