2004 International Fly Fishing Show

Since the founding of The International Federation of Fly Fishers in 1960, the annual International Fly Fishing Fair has become the must-attend event for fly fisher folk around the world. This year’s 39th anniversary show promises to be one of the best in Federation history.

IFFF has chosen West Yellowstone to host this year’s event. Within a stone’s throw of some of the best trout water in the nation, West Yellowstone couldn’t be a better venue. Just as in the past, this year’s event will consist of workshops, demonstrations, specialty programs, and social activities. New this year is the Spey casting certification program as well as some beefed-up saltwater programs. Other highlights of this year’s event include the Women’s Fly Fishing Program and various educational activities aimed at the up-and-coming generation of fly fishers.

As in previous years, the list of presenters for the 2004 show consists of an impressive collection of outstanding individuals from the sport. Clinics and workshops will be conducted by the likes of Jason Borger, Joan Wulff, Mel Krieger, and Bob Jacklin, to name a few. The other major facet of the Conclave and Show will be the 125 different fly tying demonstrations, each performed by masters in the craft. These fly-tying maestros will be whipping up everything from simple trout streamers to large and complex Spey fly patterns.

With over 30 exhibitors, including book dealers, artists, and various equipment manufactures, you can also check out the latest gear, pick up a new book, or eyeball a unique piece of angling art. The Show and Conclave will culminate in grand style at the annual send-off barbeque, held this year at 6:00 pm on August 21. This closing event gives demonstrators and participants an opportunity to discuss what has been presented, or just talk fishing.

So whether you’re a novice angler or a seasoned pro, the Federation of Fly Fishers Annual Show and Conclave will definitely be worth the drive to West Yellowstone this August. Registration for workshops and programs starts at 7:30 am on Monday, August 16th at the West Yellowstone Holiday Inn. For more information contact the IFFF at 222-9369 or visit fedflyfishers.org.
