It’s easy to fall into the habit of wearing hiking boots around town—this is Bozeman, after all, and we’re an unpretentious lot. But if you want a little more style in your casual wear, check out the Otis boot from Chaco. Yes, Chaco—no longer limited to iconic summer sandals, the company now has an entire line of full-coverage footwear, and the Otis could very well be the best of the bunch. A non-insulated suede upper works well for warm spring days, the Vibram Icetrek Nurl Outsole gives good traction on wet surfaces, and the ChaPU midsole makes this boot among the most comfortable you’ve ever worn—I trekked around town for ten hours one day and my dogs never barked once. A word of caution: the ankle diameter is smaller than normal, so squeezing a heavily SmartWooled foot into the boot can be a real bear; best to upsize or wear a super-thin sock. Available at Northern Lights, Schnee’s, Timber Trails, and REI. $140; chacos.com.
