Travex Convertible Pant

With autumn’s variable weather—cool mornings, hot afternoons, rainy evenings—a waterproof, convertible pant is must for long hikes and river floats. I like the Eddie Bauer Travex Convertible Pant, for a number of reasons: 1) the light, comfortable Travex material protects the skin while being cool and drying rapidly, 2) an elastic waistband allows both a snug fit and easy entry/exit, and 3) the legs zip off so I can take a swim at noon and still be warm and dry at seven, without hauling another garment along. I also appreciate the multiple pockets and extra room in the thighs. Articulated knees, a sturdy web belt, and ankle zippers for over-the-boot pant removal round out this solid pant’s features. $60; eddiebauer.com.
