Leverich Gets a Lift

Construction on the Leverich Canyon Trail.

This spring, the Gallatin County Resource Advisory Committee committed $8,500 to help reduce trail erosion and increase public safety on the Leverich Canyon Trail. After being moved in 2008 by the Forest Service due to the discovery of Westslope cutthroat trout in the creek, a local mountain-bike club called the Dirt Concern has taken responsibility for the trail’s upkeep and maintenance. According to Greg Beardslee of the Montana Mountain Bike Alliance, “The Leverich Trail has become increasingly popular. It’s important for it to be safe, sustainable, and fun.” For more information about how you can help, check out montanamountainbikealliance.com, thedirtconcern.com, or gallatinwrp.org.
