From swimming alongside the boat all day to ten-mile trail runs in the August heat, summer fun can take its toll on a Montana pooch. Here are a few products we’ve found to help take care of your four-legged friend and get the job done right. –Katie Barba

When your pooch gets nasty after rolling in poop or dead fish, clean her up with HappyTails Bubbles ‘n Beads Shampoo & Conditioner ($19; happytailsspa.com). The microbeads create a rich lather and while pricey, the bottle seems to last forever. The smell is pleasant and doesn't fade away too fast. Pick up a bottle locally at Dee-O-Gee in Bozeman.

The pampered pet will love Dee-O-Gee’s baked dog treats ($.75-$4; dee-o-gee.com) made in-house using all-natural, human-grade ingredients. Options include honey ginger, chicken and cheese, beef-and-molasses blend, and more. We’re trying out the fishermen and trout cookies this summer, and our boys are mighty pleased. Gift boxes are available.

To protect your pup while in the raft or driftboat this summer, pick up a Big Eddy Float Coat ($75; ruffwear.com) from Ruff Wear. This padded life jacket is durable, supportive, and fits well. The buoyancy of the is dispersed around the dog’s body so he can swim naturally without being inhibited by the jacket. It also has a burly strap on top so you can yank the dog out of the water swiftly. Available at Northern Lights, Bridger Feeds, and Dee-O-Gee.
