Run Sunglasses

If I were ever to get serious about self-improvement, one of the things I would most like to change about myself is to stop being the kind of person—broke-ass writer—who, when he needs sunglasses, buys half a dozen Michael Jackson varieties for $2.99 each, and then wears them for the better part of a day before they crumple.

For nearly a year now, however, I’ve been banging around with the wonderfully oversized Julbo Run shades, which almost feel like quasi-goggles, and are about as close to indestructible as sunglasses get. The Zebra lenses, which adjust to light conditions, soothe and protect the eyes but also still let a lot of light in—you can wear them in a wider range of light than any glasses I’ve ever worn. Eventually one of the lenses began popping out, but that was because I was pretty rough on them; the lens never broke, and I just wedged it back into the frame and continued on. They stayed snug while mountain biking, hiking, and running. Available at Northern Lights. $160; julbousa.com.
