Nothing gets us outdoor folk more psyched for the season than watching kick-ass films of people shredding the proverbial gnar. If you’re a whitewater paddler—or just enjoy watching them do their thing—April 22 is the day and the Emerson Cultural Center is the place. Three original films, a raffle with tons of great kayaking gear, and a rockin’ after-party promise to kick off the 2009 paddling season in style.

Now in its second year, the Bozeman Paddling Film Festival is a grassroots effort to bring together and celebrate the whitewater kayaking community of southwest Montana. All films are either produced locally or feature local paddlers. Team Marginal—the foursome of young, ambitious Bozeman boaters that puts on the event—aims to not only showcase local talent and host a great event for paddlers of all levels, but to provide a fun and inspiring meeting ground for boaters and non-boaters alike.

The event is sponsored by Northern Lights Trading Company, Outside Bozeman magazine, and many other local businesses. Films include footage from Montana, Chile, Argentina, and Africa, and highlight the impressive paddling feats of Casey Wilcox, Ben Kinsella, Bradford McArthur, Pat Rogers, and brothers Ian and Evan Garcia.
