I’m not sure what “Shralp” means, but Return to Schralptown (Thrillhead Creations, $16) is one cool flick. Like its predecessor, 2006’s acclaimed Schralptown, Return to Schralptown celebrates the spirit of backcountry skiing—its thrill, adventure, and both physical and emotional intensity—while giving adequate, genuine attention to the less glamorous issues of avalanche awareness and environmental stewardship. This is no pose-fest like many ski flicks; it’s the true backcountry experience. These diehard guys and gals all earn their turns, sweating their way to the top of each run, and their personal narratives reveal a deep love not just for skiing, but for the mountains themselves. Return to Schralptown also includes clips from a cool kite-skiing expedition across North Dakota, stunning footage of steep South American slopes, and some sweet split-boarding in Colorado’s Front Range. Order a copy for your pre-season waxing party; this DVD will definitely get you psyched for the coming season. Order online at thrillheadcreations.com or through Backcountry Magazine (backcountrymagazine.com), who sponsored the movie.
