Specter LT Jacket

It’s not like Montana is known for its rainy season, but enduring weird bouts of rain in the spring, summer, and fall without a good shell is a pain. I decided to try the winner of Backpacker magazine’s 2008 Editor’s Choice Award —the Specter LT jacket by Westcomb. It fits like a glove, sheds water like a seal, has an adjustable hood and waist, and scrunches up small enough to fit in my pack or my purse. The true test was when I wore it to the Gallatin Valley Fair this summer. It was a complete downpour, but we had promised my two-year-old that he could take the rides that night. I stayed nice and dry with my jacket and I looked good to boot. Now I finally have a jacket for the three nonwinter seasons and all the activities that they entail. $298; westcomb.com.
