Canoe Chair II

I'm not a fan of superflous accessories, but for long, lazy days on the river or lake, Crazy Creek's Canoe Chair II is a worthwhile addition. This high-backed, padded canoe seat eases the strain on your back and lets you recline while fishing or during long stretches of mellow water. The quick-release buckles allow you to easily remove and stash the seat for faster water, and a special hook and loop strap holds the chair closed during portaging. A mesh back pocket holds maps and other small items. I also liked that the chair works just as well on terra firma—I used it at Shakespeare in the Parks, for example—so you can keep your gear pile to a minimum. $46; crazycreek.com.
