Time for a Change (new year, better attitude)
|
Hello Outside Bozeman reader!
No, this does not mean you can expect Outside Bozeman newsletters to start appearing in your inbox with any sort of regularity. We're still the slackers we've always been (this actually seems kinda
ambitious, as the last newsletter came out a scant nine months ago), and we don't expect that will ever change. If it does, it means we're not skiing, snowshoeing, skating, ice climbing, or drinking beer,
and have been chained to our computers by evil corporate bosses. When that happens, you'll be the first to know, because the company lawyer will no longer allow a photo of Katie's hind end to be hidden somewhere in
the newsletter. (Don't bother looking; we're just kidding. Or are we?)
No, the change we're talking about is a cultural one. With southwest Montana feeling the same recessionary stress as other parts of the country (guess we're not so immune after all), it's time to abandon those outlandish dreams
of five-figure incomes and vehicles manufactured in this century. Time to return to our roots, to cling tightly to our Montana values, and be the dirtbag ski bums we were born to be. The best way to ride out a recession, we figure, is to pretend it
doesn't exist. So hit the trails, get out on the slopes, and recreate like there's no tomorrow. We'll see you at the bar afterward for more reality-escaping revelry.
Winter Issue on the Shelves
Yup, ski season's here (somebody should tell Mother Nature; it's been a snowless sauna 'round here lately) and Outside Bozeman's
got you covered with great skiing destinations, training tips, and funny tales for the winter season. Not to mention amazing photos of Montana's winter wonderland. Grab a copy at your favorite coffee shop or outdoor store —
or make things easy on yourself and buy a subscription! They're just $15/year and will guarantee a copy in your hands early in the season.
As always, the Magazine page of our website has articles in text-only form.
The 2009 Outside Bozeman Calendar
Times may be tough,
but that doesn't mean we can't cough up a few bucks for those in need. The Outside Bozeman 2009 Calendar —
a sweet 12-month calendar with awesome photos, money-saving coupons to local outdoor stores, and all the year's outdoor events — is still available, so pick one up today. $2 of every sale goes to
Eagle Mount, an amazing local organization that helps disabled kids get outside. All this for a paltry eight bucks! But wait, there's more! The calendars
also have great quotes and interesting facts about southwest Montana. Stop by your favorite bookstore or local outdoor shop to buy a copy, or click
here to order online.
Photo Contest Deadline April 30th
That's right, the second annual
Outside Bozeman Photo Contest is here, and time's already a-tickin'. Last year's contest called forth some 200 photographers
and over 1,000 photos; let's see if we can do even better this year. There are prizes galore, including great gear from local outdoor shops, camera equipment from F-11, and $500 in cash for the top amateur photo.
Winning photos will be featured on WildWestPhotos.com and in the Summer 2009 issue of Outside Bozeman. So start shooting — the deadline
will be here before you know it! Visit outsidebozeman.com for contest details.
How Far Will You Go?
Outdoor folk love to travel, and this season saw a burst of Bozemanites roaming the globe,
Outside Bozeman in hand. From India to Africa, China to Chile, the mountains of Switzerland to the water (literally) of
the Caribbean, O/B traveled far and wide. It was a tough call this time around — so tough, in fact, that we called it a tie. Dan Mott and Sara Kavanagh both score free trips to
Chico Hot Springs in Paradise Valley. Thanks to all our faithful O/B readers for entering, and remember, keep packing O/B along!
We are constantly striving to make Outside Bozeman — both our print issue and the website — even better.
We welcome suggestions for improvement, though we reserve the right to ignore them completely. If you have feedback
or ideas, please send them to info@outsidebozeman.com.
And as always... see you outside!

O/B-SPONSORED EVENTS
Don't miss Bridger Clinic's annual Sweet Tooth Ball fundraiser on Saturday,
February 7th. This excellent event has free swing lessons, a host of delectable desserts, a silent auction, and a long night of dancing to Little Elmo and the Mambo Kings. (Any band with a name like that has got to be good.)
Call 406-587-0681 for more info.
Remember, Outside Bozeman helps support this and other community events, so come on out and take part.
It's wasted advertising space otherwise, which we could have traded for whiskey or new skis.
