Outside Bozeman - Southwest Montana's Outdoor Journal

Chronicling the numerous and varied outdoor experiences of southwest Montana’s favorite car and the proud pilots who operate them.

Montana Suby Tales 2007 continues our effort to record the adventures of Montana Subarus and their innumerable outdoor exploits. These Suby annals promise to be diverse and engaging, from near-calamitous backcountry mishaps to those flawless, once-in-a-lifetime outdoor excursions. How many times has a Subaru saved the day? What other vehicle boasts such vast experience and adventure on Montana’s highways and byways? The Montana Suby Tales contest celebrates the mighty Subaru and rewards its inestimable accomplishments in the outdoor world around Bozeman.

Contest Rules:
1. Locals anywhere or anyone here. Area residents cruising the Bozone or on a road-trip to a faraway land; or non-resident Suby-drivers recreating around the Bozeman area—as long as you’re driving a Subaru and you’re tied to southwest Montana, your story qualifies.
2. Subaru is an irreplaceable element. Your Japanese wonder-car must be an instrumental, and perhaps pivotal, part of your story. If your protagonist has a nickname, all the better.
3. Concise and well-told stories. Tales must not exceed 800 words. 300-500 is ideal, though shorter tales are also welcome. If you’re having trouble keeping the story trim and readable, drop us a line and we’ll try to help. editor@outsidebozeman.com.
4. Visual accompaniment. Try to include photos or illustrations with your tale, as this will greatly enhance your story’s printability, and thus its chances of winning a prize.
5. Deadline. All Suby stories and photographs must be received by December 31, 2007; but the sooner the better. Mail to editor@outsidebozeman.com or PO Box 10934, Bozeman, 59719. Or, drop them by the office at 313 W. Mendenhall. Winning stories will appear in the Spring 2008 issue.

Prizes:
There are several prize categories: best overall tale, funniest story, noblest effort, etc. Prizes will include free service and maintenance on your Suby from Montana Import Group, various schwag from Outside Bozeman Magazine, and a slew of other prizes from our many sponsors. Expect free skiing, paddling, and biking gear; trips to local resorts and lodges; gift certificates to area restaurants; and various other loot.
