McCarthy, Chris

I’ve never been one to pontificate about a trail shoe. Hell, up until three years ago, I’d run in whatever was on the bargain table. The Peregrine from Saucony has changed all that. This trail shoe is the perfect combination of ruggedness and comfort. The traction is aggressive, giving me a confident stride going up and down steep inclines. The mid- and forefoot both have a rock guard, making the shoe Ridge-worthy without being rigid. The Peregrine also features the Saucony Power Grid—specially engineered cushioning to distribute impact and keep the foot centered—and a 4mm offset from heel to toe. The one concern I had was that the shoes were not water-resistant, but I’ve found water is quickly pushed out through the very breathable upper material and have had no problems with wet trail conditions. Available at Bozeman Running Company. $110; saucony.com
