Officially Outdoors

Bullock invests in outdoor economy.

This past summer, Montana Governor Steve Bullock announced his plans to create a new Office of Outdoor Recreation, to be housed in the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. The new office will serve as a tool for the state to focus on recreational activity in general, and in particular, the future of public land in Montana. In light of the growing debate concerning public-land management and access, Bullock hopes that this new office will promote Montana’s unique outdoor-recreation economy by expanding business opportunities, and also expand and protect public access. To that end, Bullock also announced a new position—a Public-Access Specialist—who will work to increase hunting, fishing, and recreational opportunities around the state. As Bullock says, “public access to public lands is a fundamental part of what it means to be a Montanan… And it’s my responsibility as governor to uphold this Montana value—now and in the years to come.”
