McCarthy, Chris

I’ve been a fan of classic canvas pants from Carhartt for as long as I can remember, so when they come out with a new pair of cotton pants, I was hesitant to give them more than a cursory glance. The Tappen Cargo pant has changed my mind, however. These pants are great for everyday wear, getting outdoors, and even some manual labor. The fabric is durable and built with a stain-breaker, so dirty-spots wash out easily. The Tappens are definitely designed with function in mind. The knees are articulated and the crotch is gusseted, giving you freedom to move without hindrance or fabric bunch-up where you would prefer it wouldn’t. Finally, the cargo pockets offer plenty of room, a zippered pocket for security, and two easy-access pockets. I’ll never lose my love for canvas pants, but the Tappens are a great alternative. $55; carhartt.com
