AKU's Fast Alpina GTX
AKU's Fast Alpina GTX
There’s no better way to cure cabin fever and work off winter fat than to hit the trail. Which is what prompted me to pick up the FastAlpina GTX from AKU, a versatile trail shoe that attacks, with aplomb, the variable conditions of early-season trails. Though classified as a low-top hiker—and with the weight to match, at over a pound apiece—I found them great for running, as well. The suede mesh upper is comfortable and breathes well, while the Gore-Tex lining repels mud and snow. I particularly liked the Vibram Cloud outsole, which is firm, aggressive, and simple—basically an all-terrain tire for the feet. The best part? No crazy colors that scream ostentation, just mellow earth-tones to complement your run or hike through the spring woods. $180; aku.it.
