Review: Outdoor Research Helium Jacket

The wet spring weather definitely got me thinking about a good raincoat—something lightweight, easy to pack, and (obviously) waterproof—and the Outdoor Research Helium Jacket gets the job done. The jacket compresses down to the size of a half-pound burger, it can be hooked onto a backpack, and fits inside the chest pocket of my waders. The Helium has drawcord adjustments on both the hood and hem, so it provides snug protection from rain and wind. One piece of advice: order a size larger than you think you need—these run small. Available online. $159; outdoorresearch.com.
