England, Mike

I took the Mystery Ranch Snapdragon on a full-day trail hike; on a long, steep approach to an alpine climb; and on an all-day, off-trail scouting trip deep in the wilderness. The Snapdragon did what Mystery Ranch packs are known for: riding well and making the load more comfortable. I particularly liked the 3Zip top flap, which allowed me to stuff and unstuff my climbing rack way easier than the conventional top-load-only system. Elastic side pockets held my water bottles secure, and special sleeves on each side held my wet raincoat and a light fleece that I wanted quick access to later. Always a fan of versatility, I noted the ski sleeves left and right, meaning I can use this pack for backcountry skiing too. All in all, a solid addition to the Mystery Ranch lineup. $230-$264, depending on size; mysteryranch.com.
