Quality camp-cooking gear can make the difference between a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and a vow to never leave the comforts of one’s kitchen again. I recently replaced my hodgepodge collection of kitchen rejects with legitimate camp gear from GSI Outdoors—and what a difference! The Extreme 10” Frypan ($30) is lightweight, with a convenient folding handle; its triple-coated non-stick interior makes for oil-free cooking and easy cleaning. The Halulite 3-Piece Ring Cutlery ($13) trims weight and keeps all necessary utensils at my fingertips instead of scattered through my pack or truck bed. I absolutely love the Lexan Wine Glass ($6); not only does the stem detach for compact storage, but its sleek, traditional design never fails to impress camp dates. Cooking spices stay dry and handy in the Lexan Salt & Pepper Shaker ($4). No self-respecting camp goes without coffee or tea, and the Halulite Tea Kettle ($18) packs light and heats water quickly. All in all, the GSI gear seems about as good as it gets for outdoor cooking, whether you’re at a picnic table or in the depths of the backcountry. More info at gsioutdoors.com.
