Good News & Bad News at Bozeman Creek

The good news for the Sourdough Canyon / Bozeman Creek trailhead is that Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) doubled the parking capacity and installed a permanent vault toilet last fall. It also secured major funding for more improvements this summer. The bad news is that if GVLT raises the rest of the funding needed to improve the road and the City of Bozeman moves forward with a multimillion-dollar upgrade to its drinking-water treatment plant and water-intake structure, the many users of this hugely popular trailhead will face many days of closures in late summer and fall.

This winter, GVLT secured $57,000 for road and parking improvements from the Gallatin Resource Advisory Committee and $11,000 for stream-restoration work from the National Forest Foundation, but the project may still need as much as $132,000 in cash and in-kind donations. Watch the Trails Projects page of gvlt.org for updates.
