The Hwy. 89 South Bike Path in Livingston will get a much-needed facelift this spring, part of a multi-phase project to eventually extend the trail all the way to Gardiner. Park County received funding from the Montana Department of Transportation to resurface the trail, update signs, and make ADA-accessible road crossings from Merrill Ln. to the East River Rd. junction. The second phase of the project will extend the path through the valley to Old Yellowstone Trail North, aka the Old Road trail. Work is set to begin this summer. “The original trail was put in 20 years ago,” says Public Works director Parks Frady. “These funds will help preserve the trail and make it more user-friendly for the next 20 years.” Improving and expanding Livingston’s trails is part of a larger initiative called Trails Rx, a collaborative program between the City of Livingston and Livingston Healthcare to promote outdoor activity and trail use.
